Addressing the press conference on his visit for the Annual General Meeting Ratan Tata said, "We can't work where we are not needed. We will exit Singur if the feeling of distrust and violence continues and for the safety of our employees". He said that the plant cannot function under police protection.
He further said, "My concern is the fact that if this violence and disruption of work continues, obviously it is not a conducive atmosphere...the boundary walls have been broken and plant materials stolen...I can not bring my managers and their families to be beaten up, nor can their children go to school under threat," he said.
"If some people think that we have already made Rs. 1,500 crore investment and that can not be altered, they are wrong," Ratan Tata said.
The question is does TATA really care about its social responsiblity?
First of all, TATA is ally and an accomplice to perpetuating the violents deaths of the residents of Singur. This includes rape of women. TATA went on to build its plant despite tales of horror.
Secondly, TATA participated in unconstitutional moves. As per Social activist Medha Patkar "Forceful acquisition of land is unconstitutional." A total of 997.11 acres were acquired for the project, of which 691.66 acres belonged to farmers who gave their land willingly.
Thirdly, West Bengal was a wrong choice. Left especially the CPI (M) is wrong partner as we learnt with their partnership at national level. Did TATA even consider the share holders profits while choosing West Bengal?
TATA still does not care:
On Saturday, the chief minister assured that Nano would hit the market in October as scheduled. Bhattacharjee had told media persons: "Giving away 400 acres means giving up the entire project, which is not possible. We want another round of discussion with the opposition party, during which some solution can come up."
It means very clear that TATA is going to remain accomplice to perpetuating the unlawfull activities by the CPI (M).
